The courtyard was full volume in June with L.A. public radio station KCRW’s free, all-ages concert series Summer Nights! KCRW kicked off the 6th Summer Nights season in the One Colorado Courtyard with a June 6 performance by LA-based duo De Lux. With a sound that bares comparisons to LCD Soundsystem and Talking Heads, De Lux’s synth-driven, feel-good combination of disco, post-punk and funk gave the throngs of ebullient concert goers danceable pop that had them up and on their feet. The night was bookended by DJ sets with KCRW’s own Dan Wilcox.
Summer Nights were back on the One Colorado stage June 20 with the quintessentially Californian sound of Cayucas. Zach Yudin and his twin brother and bandmate, Ben, took a sound us natives thought we knew and turned it into something both personal and musically complex. Marion Hodges, KCRW DJ extraordinaire, got the night going with a pre-show set, and ceremoniously closed the night for the hundreds (upon hundreds) of concerts goers having a hard time saying goodnight to the great scene and vibe.
