Cosmetic manufacturer offering a wide range of beauty supplies.
Makeup Artist Cosmetics, better known as MAC, comes to us by way of Canada. Founded in Toronto, Ontario in 1984 by two Franks – Frank Toskan and Frank Angelo. The first US store opened in New York in 1991. As hinted at in its name, the company’s products were originally designed for professional make-up artists in the fashion and beauty industry that relied on cosmetics that could hold up under the bright lights used in commercial photo shoots. Toskan, a makeup artist and photographer himself, invented MAC’s first lines of cosmetics in his own kitchen. Renown for their excellent skin coverage and awe-inspiring range of colors for lips, cheeks and eyes, MAC has become a mainstay with women both in and out of the industry, and is one of today’s most in-demand makeup lines. With a dramatic flair for makeup artistry, MAC is a trendsetter that constantly pushes the boundaries of beauty fads and standards. Even its ad campaigns are far-out; for its Viva Glam line, MAC used Elton John as one of the celebrity faces to promote the line, later joined by other famous phenom physiognomies such as Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper. Not only will MAC cosmetics help you look great, purchasing MAC products lets your conscience remain clear; all its products are “Cruelty-Free Beauty,” refusing animal testing for its ingredients and suppliers. And proceeds for several of its lines, such as Viva Glam, are channeled to health and children’s causes.
The MAC store at One Colorado, housed in a 2011 building that once housed the Salvation Army’s first center, is always bustling. Their products and personalized services are so popular that the store associates, who are all certified MAC makeup consultants, are kept busy, but never too busy to provide specialized attention to your specific beauty needs. Each are trained to get you in just the right shade of lipstick, blush or eye shadow for your daily look, special occasion, or hot date. The store hosts exclusive launch events for its clients, offering them a first-look at a product line before it’s released to the public.
